Russian River Real Estate FAQ

What can I do in the Russian River area?
There is no better way to experience the beauty of the Russian River than to take a trip down it. Canoeing and kayaking are a fun way to travel the Russian River, especially during the summer months when the river is slow moving. Guerneville is the hub of the Russian River Resort area and is the most popular area to enjoy river activities. If it's too hot for you at the river, take a short drive to Armstrong Redwoods to enjoy the cool of the redwood grove. Tourists and locals alike enjoy casual strolls, long hikes, horseback riding, fishing, backpacking and camping in this beautiful redwood grove.

Visit the Russian River Chamber of Commerce for calendar of local events, things to do and places to stay. You can also read about the local history and how the town of Guerneville came to be named.

I like to golf. What does the river area have to offer?
In Monte Rio, a par 36 nine-hole course originally created for the exclusive Bohemian Club, Northwood Golf remains one of the most scenic and challenging courses open to the public. Visit their site for information on fees, tours and tournaments. There are other 18 hole courses in nearby Bodega Bay, Sebastopol and Windsor.

Where can I find out about Wineries and wine tours?
There are many famous winemakers who grow their grapes in the renowned viticulture regions of the Russian River area. There are more wineries here than one could visit in a single trip. The Russian River Travel Wineries Guide page is a good place to begin your search for local wineries, tours and events.

I like to hike and camp along the beach. What's available?
The Russian River coast is home to many spectacular parks and several charming towns. The river enters the ocean just as it runs past the town of Jenner. Twelve miles north of Jenner on Highway One, you can visit Fort Ross Historic State Park. You'll see several reconstructed buildings, a reminder of a time when the Russians maintained an outpost for sea otter hunters and trade for around 30 years beginning in 1812. Sonoma County's rocky headlands and sandy shorelines are the perfect haven for those wanting to cool off during the hot northern California summers.

The Sonoma Coast State Beach is one of California's most scenic attractions. The Beach stretches north for 17 miles beginning at Bodega Head to north of Jenner. Enjoy the sandy beach and watch harbor seals at Goat Rock, or comb the beach for shells and look for sea creatures in the tide pools at Shell Beach. There's overnight camping at Wright's Beach and Bodega Dunes, while day users can enjoy surf fishing, beachcombing and picnicking where a lagoon forms as sand closes the mouth of Salmon Creek.

Salt Point State Beach boasts rugged, rocky cliffs, panoramic views, rocky sandstone coves, where you can still see where the sandstone was quarried and used in the building of the streets of San Francisco in the 1800s. Visitors can explore the marine life in the tide pools during low tide and hike 20 trails, over six miles of rugged coastline. You can explore 20 miles of hiking trails, an underwater park, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, diving, and camping.
